DETROIT — State Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit) is hosting her 11th Annual “Biking with the Rep.” event on Saturday, July 20, at 9 a.m. at Greater Grace Temple, 23500 W. 7 Mile Road in Detroit. Participation is free, but Love asks riders to RSVP with her office by calling (855) LOVE-010. Registration is also required on-site at 8:30 a.m. Riders must use a helmet.
“I’m proud to be part of a growing tradition that brings people together in and around the community to promote healthy outdoor activity,” Love said. “I was a member of the Bicycle Safety Workgroup that helped pass the safety law requiring drivers to keep a distance of at least three feet from bicyclists when passing. When we talk about taking steps to improve our lives and protect our environment, no action is too small. I encourage my friends and neighbors to join this ride, get to know your community and help us continue this tradition.”
Biking is an activity that offers health benefits to the rider and economic and environmental benefits to the community. An hour of bicycling can burn up to 500 or more calories and contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Bicycling to destinations instead of driving a car also keeps pollutants from entering the air.
