LANSING — State Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit) introduced House Resolution 181 to declare October 2017 as Michigan Manufacturing Month. The House passed the resolution yesterday by voice vote.
“The manufacturing sector has been the bedrock of Michigan’s economy for decades, and yet, there is still room to grow and encourage people to seek out a career in any number of fields,” Love said. “Michigan’s manufacturers support us, and we should recognize their contributions as well.”
More than 600,000 men and women are employed in the manufacturing industry in Michigan, which contributes more than $92 billion to the economy every year. In the last eight years, Michigan has created more than 156,000 new manufacturing jobs, an increase of more than 34 percent.
“From bioscience and food and beverage manufacturing to textile and clothing, alternative energy and more, manufacturing touches every part of our lives,” Love said. “It’s only right that we highlight these businesses and workers for all they do, and I’m glad my colleagues joined me in supporting this resolution.”
