LANSING – State Representative Leslie Love (D-Detroit) will host the 8th Annual “Biking with the Rep” event on Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m., starting at the El Bethel Baptist Church, 25295 Grand River Ave. in Redford Township. The 11.5-mile long ride is free to participate in, but riders must be wearing a helmet. Riders can register for the event at the representative’s website, love.housedems.com, or on-site the day of the event starting at 9 a.m.

“I look forward to welcoming people to this great event, which brings people together to enjoy our community and promote healthy activity,” Rep. Love said. “I encourage everyone to come out Saturday morning to get to know their neighbors and join us on a fun bike ride.”

Bicycling is an activity that offers health benefits to the rider and economic and environmental benefits to their community. An hour of bicycling can burn up 500 or more calories and contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Bicycling to destinations instead of driving a car also keeps pollutants from entering the air. Detroit is also home to several up-and-coming bicycle-based businesses, including Detroit Bikes, Shinola, The Hub and Wheelhouse Detroit.

“As more and more people are turning to bicycling to get to work or school, get fit or simply get out into their community, I’m proud to continue the tradition of our community bike ride,” Rep. Love said. “I hope to see many of my neighbors at the event this Saturday.”
