WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. — Yesterday morning, West Bloomfield Police responded to reports of a bomb and an armed student at West Bloomfield Middle School, and classes were canceled for the day. After conducting an extensive search of the school WBPD found nothing to indicate the presence of weapons or explosive devices. WBPD’s investigation is ongoing. State Representative Noah Arbit (D-West Bloomfield) and State Senator Rosemary Bayer (D-West Bloomfield) issued the following statement:

“We express our sincere gratitude for our incredible West Bloomfield Police Department and West Bloomfield School District leaders for their diligent work and commitment to keeping our community safe in the wake of the false, but serious threats of violence made against West Bloomfield Middle School yesterday. We are deeply disturbed by the growing frequency of false threats of violence levied against school communities. This type of conduct is not only criminal, but terroristic, and we are confident that every effort will be made to identify those responsible and hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

“As West Bloomfield’s legislative leaders, we stand united alongside parents, students, faculty, and community members across West Bloomfield in declaring that violence and threats of violence have no place in our community, and we will continue to work to ensure our community, and all communities in Michigan, are safe and secure for all.”
