It is a great honor to join the Michigan House of Representatives as we work to serve the residents of Michigan. As a 20-year resident of Dearborn Heights, I look forward to bringing my constituents’ needs to the Capitol and making our community a better place to live, work, go to school and raise a family.

My work as a legislator is truly diverse and ever-changing. I enjoy the many aspects of the position, such as providing services to constituents, serving on both the Energy Policy and Natural Resources committees, and developing new legislation. Speaking of which, I am working on several new bills that I believe would have a positive impact on our state and its residents. Bill topics range from providing more fiscal stability to school districts, adding transparency to campaign advertisements, senior protections, cancer screening requirements, energy efficiency, public safety and more.

The House Energy Policy committee has been particularly busy this year. The renewable energy and efficiency standards law that went into effect in 2008 will level off at the end of the year. Due to this, the Michigan Legislature is currently discussing ways to improve the law and institute meaningful reforms. As a member of this committee, I will continue to explore innovative energy strategies, and diligently work to determine the best policies for Michigan.

Finally, I would like to invite residents to join me for coffee hours this month to discuss their thoughts and ideas about how I can best represent and address your needs.

Coffee hours in June will take place:

  • Monday, June 8, from 9-10:30 a.m. at Mr. Mike’s, 6047 N. Wayne Road in Westland
  • Monday, June 8, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Maplewood Community Center, 31735 Maplewood St. in Garden City

Additional coffee hours will be scheduled at a later date. Perhaps you’d like to discuss a topic but you don’t like speaking in group settings; maybe you have a sensitive issue to discuss; or maybe the timing of the coffee hours doesn’t match your schedule. I encourage residents to contact my office should they need information, assistance, or would like to voice an opinion or concern. My office can be reached at julieplawecki@house.mi.gov or at (844) 347-8011. My staff and I are eager to assist you and answer any questions that you may have.
