EAST LANSING – State Representative Sam Singh (D-East Lansing) praised the announcement of Ingham County Clerk Barb Bryum in her decision to open her office in Mason to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Yesterday, Federal Judge Bernard Friedman struck down Michigan’s ban on same-sex marriage, ruling it in violation of the U.S. Constitution.
“This is a historic day in Michigan. I wish to congratulate all the couples who will finally be able to marry today after years of waiting,” said Rep. Singh. “Michigan is a step closer to realizing equality of all of its citizens.”
The county clerk’s office will open at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 22. Couples seeking to get married should use the west entrance of the Ingham County Courthouse, 315 S Jefferson St. in Mason.
