ROYAL OAK, Mich, June 26, 2022 — After a series of mixed messages regarding its abortion policy following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, Beaumont Health Spectrum Health (BHSH) released a statement clarifying that it will continue providing medically necessary abortions. State Rep. Regina Weiss (D-Oak Park) responded with her own statement:
“I am relieved that BHSH will continue providing the critical health care services that its patients need. However, this situation underscores the need for reproductive health advocates to continue pressuring providers and reminding them of the facts: Abortions are health care, and abortions are legal. It also reminds us of the critical need to enshrine the right to reproductive freedoms in our laws and the Michigan Constitution.”
