LANSING — Last week, state Rep. Tenisha Yancey (D-Harper Woods) held a town hall for residents to learn about topics such as life insurance, wills, trusts and probate. She was joined by a panel of experts who gave presentations on these important issues, answered residents’ questions and addressed any concerns they may have.

“This is a very important topic,” Yancey said. “I know that sometimes we put off taking care of these things but all people need to address these issues. No one wants to spend the time planning for life’s messes, but it is essential.”

Estate planning, while often thought of as a “dark” issue, is the best way for a person to protect their loved ones after they are gone. The town hall was set up with the hopes of giving people the access to information they needed while answering important questions.

“The most important thing, in my opinion, is that we helped people,” Yancey continued. “A young mother came up to me during the event and thanked me. This process is often daunting, and I think that the information can be very difficult to find. I was happy to bring it together in one place and give people the opportunity to ask questions in a safe environment.”
