BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP — Representative Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) announced his Teacher of the Month Award program today, in advance of Teacher Appreciation Week, which is the first week of May.

“During Teacher Appreciation Week, we take the time to celebrate the work and accomplishments of our teachers,” Camilleri said. “I want to make sure that is something we are more actively doing year round, and I hope recognizing hardworking teachers from across Downriver each month will keep the spotlight on our educators and the work they are doing for and with students and families in our community.”

As part of the award process, Rep. Camilleri is inviting constituents from the 23rd District to nominate teachers in their community for the award. Nominations can be emailed to darrincamilleri@house.mi.gov and should include contact information and a brief explanation of why this teacher uniquely deserves to be recognized.

“As a former teacher, I know how hard our teachers work and how often they go without the recognition they deserve,” Camilleri added. “During my 28 school visits as part of March is Reading Month, I saw teachers across our district making sacrifices for their students. I hope this award honors the dedicated educators across Downriver.”

The first award will be announced as part of Teacher Appreciation Week in May. Going forward, awards will be announced the first week of each month this year.
