LANSING — Today, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer sent a letter to members of the Benton Harbor Board of Education to announce her intention to collaborate with them as they develop a new proposal to address the academic shortfalls of the school district. In response, state Rep. Isaac Robinson (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“I am pleased that the governor is collaborating with the local elected board in Benton Harbor to strengthen public schools. I have opposed emergency management and state take-overs of local school districts for many years and maybe this situation is the wake-up call we all need to be more proactive. Schools across Michigan face funding and academic challenges. It’s not just a Benton Harbor issue. That’s why it is so important that this upcoming budget prioritize education because all children deserve a world-class education.”
