LANSING — The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) announced yesterday a series of grants awarded to communities throughout the state to aid in funding scrap tire drop-off events. These events provide the opportunity for residents of the community to dispose of tires in a safe, environmentally friendly manner. Muskegon County and the city of Muskegon Heights were both announced as grantees and will receive $40,000 and $6,000, respectively. State Rep. Terry Sabo (D-Muskegon) issued the following statement in response:

“We all understand the need to be more proactive in protecting our environment, but not all communities have the resources they need to do so effectively. With these grants, the MDEQ helps to ensure that we all can do our part to be good stewards by participating in these scrap tire drop-off events, and I am grateful that two of our communities were selected for this opportunity.”
