“The announced closing of Muskegon Family Care on March 31, 2020 has brought a tremendous amount of concern to our community regarding health care and other services to thousands of our residents. Over the last several weeks, I have been involved in numerous discussions with our local stakeholders and state officials regarding the status of patient care, employees and the facility. This past week, the situation has taken a very rapid turn for the worse. My number one priority has been to stay focused on the patients affected and their health care needs and options going forward. I am encouraged by the outpouring of support from other health care providers in the Muskegon area and their unifying efforts to meet the medical, dental, behavioral and pharmacy needs of those patients. I have also had conversations with state officials regarding the employees who are losing their jobs because of the closure. This will be a long-term process that will require ongoing engagement and my office is committed to the patients and employees adversely affected.
