LANSING, Mich., Aug. 18, 2022 — Members of the House Democratic Caucus held a press conference yesterday to denounce the lack of legislative session while Michiganders are paying the salaries of their representatives to tackle the issues affecting them. From high prices on gas and groceries to the threat of reproductive health care being taken away, Democrats have legislation ready to move, but Lansing Republicans who set the calendar won’t come back to work from their summer vacation. After the event, state Rep. Helena Scott (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“Michigan families are facing high prices at the pump and the grocery store, while they also endure the effects of climate change and threats to repeal civil rights. Meanwhile, representatives are taking a vacation and still collecting a paycheck from taxpayers. It isn’t right. You all work hard — we should work just as hard for you. That’s what Dems want to do. It’s time to end this extended summer vacation and get back to work for the hard-working people of our state.”
