False claim that ‘too many dead people voted’ latest example Shirkey is unfit to lead

LANSING —  House Democratic Leader Donna Lasinski, D-Scio Twp., released the following statement after news reports that Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey, R-Clarklake, claimed “too many dead people voted” in the November 2020 election. The claim has been debunked numerous times at the federal, state and local levels.

“Leader Shirkey continues to push fully debunked claims of voter fraud around the election of President Joe Biden and every other candidate that was on the November ballot. He needs to stop,” Lasinski said. “Such untrue and reckless comments are the latest in a growing list of reasons Shirkey is unfit to lead. That’s why I continue to call on him to apologize and retract his statements or step down from his leadership post.”

Shirkey’s false statement about voter fraud is just the latest in a series of false comments relating to the November election. Last week, Shirkey claimed on video that the Jan. 6 insurrection on the U.S. Capitol was a “hoax” — a slap in the face to the law enforcement there that day and to the people who died and were injured.
