LANSING, Mich., March 1, 2022 — Yesterday, state Rep. Nate Shannon (D-Sterling Heights) spoke in favor of a bipartisan resolution condemning Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine. The resolution rebukes Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggressive actions, careless disregard for human life and violation of international law. Ukraine has been under a constant barrage of bombing and firing since Russia invaded last week with death tolls expected to continue climbing. The resolution is expected to receive widespread support.
“The people of Ukraine are fighting valiantly for their homeland,” Shannon said, “They should know that the people of Michigan, the United States and the rest of the world stand in solidarity with them. Russia’s invasion is a violation of human decency and international law. We hope that this conflict will come to a swift conclusion, with consequences for Russia and sovereignty for Ukraine.”
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24 has been met with worldwide condemnation. Ukrainian soldiers are still holding off a total takeover of their country.
