LANSING, Mich., July 10, 2023 — State Rep. Phil Skaggs (D-East Grand Rapids) helped secure funds for West Michigan in the fiscal 2023-24 state budget that Michigan legislators passed last week. Included is $3.5 million to build a non-motorized pedestrian and bicycle bridge over I-96, connecting the Cascade and Kentwood pathway systems.

“I am thrilled to have helped bring funds home to Kent County,” Skaggs said. “Infrastructure projects like these are key to our community — this pedestrian bridge will help connect people to each other and to our beautiful outdoor spaces. This project will make our town even more attractive and bring jobs home. All-in-all, this is a fantastic win for Cascade and Kentwood.”

“I am delighted that state Rep. Phil Skaggs has secured $3.5 million in state funding for the bridge project,” said Grace Lesperance, Cascade Charter Township Supervisor. “We anticipate that this funding will finance the entire project. This bridge has been a longtime goal, and we appreciate his efforts on our behalf.”
