LANSING — State Representative Charles Smiley (D-Burton) was sworn in today to his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives. He represents the 50th District, which comprises the cities of Burton and Grand Blanc and the townships of Grand Blanc and Mundy. Smiley, along with the other 109 members of the Michigan House, took the oath of office during a ceremony at the state Capitol marking the beginning of the 97th Legislature. Joining Smiley at the ceremony were Burton City Councilwoman Ellen Ellenburg and her husband, Tom Ellenburg.
“It gives me great pride to return to Lansing on behalf of the men and women of the 50th District,” Smiley said. “I’m looking forward to continuing my work as an advocate for middle-class families, children and seniors.”
Among Smiley’s priorities are restoring funding to K-12 schools to ensure Michigan kids can get a world-class education; re-evaluating the state’s tax code to ensure individuals and businesses alike pay their fair share; and supporting Genesee County small businesses so they can grow and create jobs.
