MUSKEGON, Mich., Sept. 20, 2024 — Mitra Future Technologies Inc.’s Muskegon plant has been named one of four Michigan recipients of a federal grant from the U.S. Energy Department to increase the domestic production of batteries. The Muskegon site will receive up to $100 million and be the first mass production facility for lithium iron phosphate cathodes in North America, helping to double the country’s production and limit its dependence on foreign suppliers.
This project will also create 150 jobs and support hundreds of construction jobs in Muskegon. In celebration of the announcement, state Rep. Will Snyder (D-Muskegon) released the following statement:
“The auto industry in our state has had to rely on foreign battery production for too long. Providing the necessary resources to increase domestic production right here in Michigan puts the ball back in our court, while also investing in new jobs and clean energy. I am thrilled to see these investments being made in our state and our own Muskegon community, and I look forward to seeing the economic development they will bring.”
