LANSING, Mich., Feb. 2, 2023 — Muskegon Heights has been awarded a $8.4 million water infrastructure grant by the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). The Drinking Water State Revolving Fund Grant assists water suppliers in satisfying the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act by offering low-interest loans to eligible water suppliers to use for critical water infrastructure projects. These projects include lead water service line replacement, treatment plant upgrades and distribution system improvements, among others. State Rep. Will Snyder (D-Muskegon) issued the following statement regarding the grant:

 

“I want to congratulate the city of Muskegon Heights on being awarded this grant. This money will continue to help the city replace old lead service lines. This is a big day for the city of Muskegon Heights, and it represents a significant, much-needed upgrade in local infrastructure.  High-quality, clean, healthy drinking water is a bedrock of any community.”
