LANSING, Mich., Jan. 24, 2024 — Before a joint legislative session today, Governor Whitmer delivered this year’s State of the State address. In her speech, the governor discussed her agenda for the new year, which includes fighting to further strengthen Michigan’s public schools and colleges, growing our economy, and protecting people’s hard-earned money. State Rep. Will Snyder (D-Muskegon) issued the following statement on Whitmer’s address:

“Economic development is the heartbeat of progress, and job creation is the pulse that keeps our communities thriving. Together, let us invest in growth, innovation and opportunities. I am committed to fighting to make a Michigan where all residents can thrive with high quality, good-paying jobs, recreation opportunities to enjoy and an education system to lead us into a prosperous future. I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues to turn more of Michigan’s potential into reality.”

Over the last year, lawmakers have laid a foundation for Michigan by putting people first. Some of their accomplishments include phasing out taxes on retirement income, expanding tax credits for working families, free meals for all public school kids, eliminating school debt for Muskegon Heights Public School District and more.
