LANSING, Mich., Nov. 28, 2023 — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed House Bill 4126 sponsored by state Rep. Will Snyder (D-Muskegon). This legislation received bipartisan support in both the House and Senate. House Bill 4126 amends a legislative sunset in the Vehicle Code. The expiration of this provision was set for January and would have led to increased cost to local governments and more dangerous residential streets. The bill ensures that local roads continue to operate at safe speeds. Snyder issued the following statement following the bill’s signing into law:

“The signing of this legislation means our communities will continue to remain safe with current commonsense speed regulations. Eliminating this sunset provision will allow for a continuation of the status quo, which means communities will not have to navigate increased bureaucratic red tape and costs.”
