“Given our state’s abundance of natural resources, we have a duty to be a leader in the fight for responsible management and preservation of the environment around us by holding greedy corporate polluters accountable. Too often, mega-corporations would rather take a ‘slap on the wrist’ and pay a small fine than adopt environmentally responsible practices. These fines are often inconsequential relative to a large company’s overall profit. My bill will change that, creating violation fines as a percentage of revenue rather than a fixed amount for companies with an annual gross income of more than $5 million, ensuring that large corporations are held accountable in the same way small businesses are.”
