“Responding to a national movement fighting for equality and justice in the face of systemic racism and police brutality with a pledge to load up on ammunition is, quite frankly, unconscionable. And to have my colleague attempt to play his comments off as a simple joke completely disregards the seriousness and danger Black Americans, including right here in Michigan, experience every single day.
“Serving as state representatives, we choose to be role models and leaders for our communities. We must hold ourselves to a higher standard of care, even on social media, when considering the implications of what we say and do.”
