“It’s incredibly disappointing—and disturbing—to learn the city of Detroit has been overtaxing its residents by hundreds of millions of dollars over the past decade, all the while giving tax breaks to billionaires only concerned with their bottom line. Because of this negligence, thousands of our community members have been forced to foreclose on their homes, and many more are facing this reality even now.
“Detroiters deserve more than to feel cheated by the very people they entrust with the responsibilities of fighting for them and bettering the community. I stand firm in my resolve to empower the people of Detroit to stand up and say enough is enough.
“It’s imperative for this administration to decisively provide answers to our community as to how many homeowners have been impacted by overtaxation, as well as the steps they will be taking to assist residents who have experienced a hardship as a result.”
