LANSING – State Representative Vanessa Guerra (D-Saginaw) was sworn into office on Wednesday at the state Capitol with other members of the 98th Michigan Legislature. The first-term representative will represent House District 95, which comprises the cities of Saginaw and Zilwaukee, and Bridgeport, Buena Vista, Carrollton, James, Kochville, Spaulding and Zilwaukee townships in Saginaw County.

“Since I began my journey from announcing my intent to run for this seat, I have talked with many residents of the 95th House District to hear their concerns and understand the troubles they face,” Guerra said. “Now, I can remain dedicated to them by taking those concerns to the House floor and be an honest, passionate voice for my constituents and all of Michigan.”

Guerra is a former Bridgeport Township trustee, and currently attends the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where she studies public interest law. She is a lifelong resident of the district, attending Bridgeport-Spaulding public schools before moving on to complete her undergraduate work at the University of Michigan.

As she is sworn in, Guerra will also begin her first term as Assistant House Democratic Leader.

“I am thrilled to be joining House Democratic leadership in my first term in the Legislature,” Guerra said. “The mix of experience and fresh, new ideas will ignite our caucus to bring needed legislation to the floor to help the families, children and seniors of Michigan succeed.”
