LANSING — Today, the Michigan House of Representatives held their annual 9/11 ceremony commemorating those Michigan first responders lost in the line of duty during the past year, those lost in the 2001 attacks and recognized first responders serving in Michigan communities today. State Rep. Kevin Hertel (D-St. Clair Shores) hosted Fire Chief James Piper and firefighter Ryan Koepp of the St. Clair Shores Fire Department at the ceremony and released the following statement:

“I was pleased to be able to host Fire Chief James Piper and firefighter Ryan Koepp of the St. Clair Shores Fire Department today at our annual 9/11 ceremony and honor the work they and their colleagues do every day to keep our families safe. Our first responders make sacrifices every day, as do their families, to do a dangerous job. Legislators can honor their service by ensuring that we support our local communities and protect the benefits first responders rely on. It’s appropriate that today we recognize and thank our first responders who serve our communities, as well as honor our fallen officers and all the police officers, firefighters and citizens we lost on Sept. 11, 2001.”
