LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives voted on the One Fair Wage and MI Time to Care citizen ballot initiatives, which would increase the minimum wage and guarantee paid sick leave for all, respectively. The proposals both passed. In response, House Democratic Floor Leader Christine Greig (D-Farmington Hills) issued the following statement:
“Every hardworking Michigander should have the freedom to provide for their family and to take care of their loved ones when they’re ill — raising the minimum wage and enacting earned paid sick leave are two important ways to protect that freedom. My Democratic colleagues and I have been consistent in our fight to protect working families, and we welcomed our Republican colleagues in joining us in that fight today. But the fight is not over — it is our responsibility now to ensure that these initiatives remain intact and enacted as the voters wanted, and I intend to hold anyone who attempts to gut either policy accountable.”
