“I voted against the changes to the HICA tax because these changes are reckless. The changes being made are contingent on approval from the federal government, which may not be granted. This is further compounded by the fact that there will be a new administration sworn in next January, casting the entire approval process into uncertainty. Failure to receive federal approval will risk at least $600 million in funding, creating a major hole in the budget. This legislation, with all of its unknowns, is fiscally irresponsible. I call on Gov. Rick Snyder to veto these bills so the legislature can continue to work toward a bipartisan solution that doesn’t jeopardize future state budgets.”
