“The House Democratic Caucus is extremely disappointed in Gov. Rick Snyder signing the new emergency financial manager legislation into law. By pushing essentially the same legislation that voters just rejected in a referendum less than two months ago, legislative Republicans and the governor are either completely deaf or just hold no regard for the people who elected them into office. Additionally, by adding an unnecessary appropriation to the legislation to eliminate the possibility of a voter referendum this time around, the Republicans are going to ever more extreme lengths to prevent Michigan residents from expressing their will. This is part of the extreme lame duck agenda that the House Republican Caucus rushed through in December because they knew they wouldn’t have the votes to do so in January.”
