“Tonight the President spoke about important issues impacting families here in Michigan and across the country. Creating jobs, funding education and rebuilding the middle class are issues that Michigan House Democrats have already been working on. We are excited that the President will continue his focus on helping American manufacturing as well as ensuring that people have access to quality job training programs and expanded apprenticeship opportunities. These programs in particular fit into the needs of Michigan’s middle class families as we continue to experience an unemployment rate that is significantly higher than the national average.

“In order to grow our economy and get more people back to work, the Legislature needs to focus on funding early childhood education, K-12 schools and colleges, and on rebuilding the middle class. Preparing our children for the high-paying jobs of the future is extremely important, and that begins with a strong early childhood education. House Democrats have a plan to restore school funding and improve schools to make sure that our students get the best possible education.”
