“The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans’ board of managers did the right thing today when it voted to apply for the license that will allow the facility to serve food to visitors, staff and volunteers. Along with many in the community, I was outraged to learn that the home had neglected to get the license and would no longer serve visiting family members meals from the cafeteria. I vowed to do anything it took fix the situation, and started a petition that gathered 265 signatures from across the state calling on the home to restore food service to visitors. I’m deeply gratified that the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans listened to us and will apply for the license on Monday. It’s good to know that residents at the home – men and women who bravely served our country – will soon be able to enjoy a meal with their families.”
