LANSING — This week, Republican legislators are considering efforts to strip away critically important benefits for retired police and firefighters, such as health care. In response, state Rep. Adam Zemke (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:
“For years, Democrats have been calling on Republicans to stop underfunding our local governments, yet every year, revenue sharing still falls short of what our communities need to thrive. Now, in an attempt to fill the gap, Republicans may be considering trying to rob our police and firefighters of the health care protections that they earned. Instead of attacking those who protect our communities, we should work on better funding our communities in the first place.”
