LANSING — Today, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Adam Zemke (D-Ann Arbor) issued the following statement:
“When employers force their sick employees to choose between their health and their financial security, it harms all of us. In industries ranging from hospitality to agriculture, sick employees on the job put all of our health at risk, all in the name of profit margins. Equally as troubling, when Michiganders aren’t able to earn a living wage, all of us suffer the consequences as those families are forced to live off of government subsidies that supplement their wages. That isn’t right, and that’s why I was so strongly opposed to these measures to steamroll the wages and benefits of Michigan workers.”
