LANSING — Tonight, the House and Senate convened for a joint legislative session to hear Gov. Rick Snyder give his eighth and final State of the State address. In response, state Rep. Bettie Cook Scott (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“I was glad the governor indicated his support for investing in workforce development in our state, and I look forward to seeing him follow through on that support in the coming year. For too long under his administration, we have been failing to provide our students and young people with the skills and training they need to compete for jobs in the 21st century economy, especially those in the STEM field and the tech industry. It is critical that we begin investing in these skills so that companies like Amazon cannot afford to pass us up again.”
