LANSING — On Wednesday, emails obtained by The Chronicle of Higher Education revealed that Michigan State University interim President John Engler made critical and insensitive comments about the survivors of Larry Nassar and their lawyers, calling into question his ability to continue to lead the University community during its rebuilding process. In response, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) issued the following statement:
“Interim Michigan State University President John Engler's consistent, baseless and cruel behavior towards the brave survivors of sexual violence at MSU is downright abhorrent. It's clear that Engler's hiring was a political decision rather than a genuine effort to empower survivors and fix a broken institution. His utter lack of capacity for decency, compassion and leadership makes him unfit to lead MSU, and it's time for him to either resign or be immediately removed by Michigan State's board.”
