LANSING — Today, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) issued the following statement:

“Families across Downriver have the right to earn a good paycheck to put a roof over their head, feed their children, and build a better life for themselves. Yet today, Michiganders were robbed of that right when the legislative majority decided to prioritize the wants of their corporate donors over the needs of our state’s working families by gutting the protections in these initiatives. Our state’s hardworking men and women deserve the dignity of earning a decent living and the ability to take care of their loved ones without risking their economic security, and it is shameful that is being taken from them.”
