LANSING — Yesterday, House Democrats filed a discharge petition to bring House Bill 5124, which would provide immediate auto insurance rate relief for seniors aged 62 and older, to the House floor for a vote. Republican leadership refused them the opportunity for the bill to be considered. In response, state Rep. Donna Lasinski (D-Scio Township) issued the following statement:

“Helping lower insurance costs for seniors should not be a controversial topic. On the contrary, it is an issue that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle agree is worth fixing. House Bill 5124 provides a solution that we can take action on now to provide rate relief for our seniors, many of whom live on fixed incomes. I hope House leadership agrees that this is a worthwhile pursuit and will bring HB 5124 to the floor for a vote soon so that we can begin providing real relief to Michigan drivers.”
