LANSING — Today, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette ruled against the Civil Rights Commission’s move to protect the LGBTQ community from discrimination based on the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. In response, State Rep. Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) issued the following statement:
“While Bill Schuette attempts to trample on the LGBTQ community in an effort to appeal to an extreme fringe in an election year, I’m confident that progress will continue to march forward without him. The decent, hard-working Michiganders who support their LGBTQ family members and friends will reject his efforts to continue to drag our state into the darkness of the past. It’s not a matter of ‘if’ we expand the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, but ‘when.’ Bill Schuette will be remembered in this moment as an antagonist on the wrong side of history.”
