LANSING — Today, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Jewell Jones (D-Inkster) issued the following statement:

“In a perfect world, no person in Michigan should have to work multiple jobs or work through sickness just to keep food on the table. Though we are not perfect, we can make strides in the right direction. The people of Michigan gathered together to say enough is enough when they fought for these ballot initiatives. Now legislative Republicans have chosen to ignore the hardworking people of Michigan by gutting the protections they fought so hard to enshrine into law. This kind of legislation does not move Michigan forward. It’s wrong and the people of my district know they deserve better.”
