LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives voted on the One Fair Wage and MI Time to Care citizen ballot initiatives, which would increase the minimum wage and guarantee paid sick leave for all, respectively. The proposals passed. In response, state Rep. John Chirkun (D-Roseville) issued the following statement:
“I support legislation to raise the minimum wage and let workers earned paid sick leave, so I am glad that we could pass these initiatives to do that into law today. Workers shouldn’t have to work several jobs to support themselves and their families, and shouldn’t be threatened with losing their job if they become sick and need to stay home. Now that we’ve approved these, I will be vigilant and fight any attempt in the future to gut these bills and deprive Michiganders of what they told us they want.”
