LANSING — Today, it was announced that the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA) ended its lockout on more than 100 state and local road projects, and that members of the Operating Engineers Local 324 will be allowed to go back to work fixing Michigan roads. In response, state Rep. John Chirkun (D-Roseville) issued the following statement:
“I-696 and Mound Road are a mess and I am very glad to see that MITA has allowed work to resume on these critical road projects through the rest of the 2018 construction season. Macomb County residents and local businesses understand the inconvenience of necessary road work, but the extra delay because of the lockout was particularly difficult. I look forward to the completion of these projects and finally getting our roads fixed. I also urge MITA and the Operating Engineers to continue efforts to find a longer-term solution to their differences.”
