LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives approved House Resolution 234. In response, state Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:
“I joined with colleagues on both sides of the aisle in calling for the resignation or removal of Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon with the passage of House Resolution 234. However, we cannot pick and choose when we take action against failed leadership. We must be consistent in our standards whether there is a violation in the U.S. Capitol, the state Capitol, at Michigan State or anywhere else. Acts of sexual assault and harassment are egregious and must have consequences. When leaders fail catastrophically, we must have the same response — enough is enough, and these failed leaders have to go. It is the least the victims of these crimes deserve. It should not take more than 150 brave young women coming forward to make an institution take action.”
