LANSING — Yesterday, the Michigan House of Representatives approved House Bill 5609. In response, state Rep. Leslie Love (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“I am happy that my colleagues agree that we should allow insurance agencies the flexibility to grow or keep their business by thanking their customers. By increasing the value of a gift a business can give to a customer to $50, we give insurance agents the ability to be more individualized when they show their gratitude.

“Now the annual gift you receive from your agent can be more personal, useful — such as a gasoline gift card — and less generic than a coffee mug or calendar. I am confident that my colleagues in the Senate will support this measure and I am looking forward to working with them to pass the bill and send it to the governor to be signed into law.”
