LANSING — Today, Entergy, the owner of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert Township, announced that it will not close the plant in 2018 and that Consumers Energy will continue to purchase power from the plant. In response, state Rep. Patrick Green (D-Warren), a member of the House Energy Committee, issued the following statement:

“I am pleased to hear the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant will remain open through 2022. This decision certainly comes as good news for the nearly 600 workers at the plant who will stay employed on site, as well as Consumers Energy, as it can continue to purchase power from Palisades. As we move forward with implementation of the 2016 energy law, it is crucial we maintain the reliability of Michigan’s energy grid. The continued operation of Palisades will ensure Consumers, and other energy providers, will have adequate capacity to provide for our families and businesses.”
