LANSING — This week, Republican legislators are considering efforts to strip away critically important benefits for retired police and firefighters, such as health care. In response, state Rep. Phil Phelps (D-Flushing) issued the following statement:
“Many of us can’t imagine going to work and doing what our police and firefighters do day in and day out. To consider robbing them of the health care benefits that they have earned is simply wrong. I will continue to do all I can to stand up for those who keep our communities safe.”
