LANSING — Today, the House of Representatives voted out legislation that would rob hundreds of thousands of Michiganders of their health care through the Healthy Michigan plan. In response, state Rep. Ronnie Peterson (D-Ypsilanti) issued the following statement:

“Instead of threatening Michiganders by taking away their health care if they do not meet arbitrary requirements, we should be providing support to help people in our state who are looking for good-paying, reliable jobs to find them. This bill neglects to provide those critical resources, and instead punishes folks who are doing the best they can to get by and robs them of their health care. Working families need health care; children and people with disabilities need health care, yet their coverage will be most vulnerable under this bill. Countless studies have shown that creating additional bureaucracy and red tape in order to receive health care is entirely ineffective. Working does not make people healthy; health care does, and that’s why I am going to continue to fight to protect it.”
