LANSING — Today, Legislative Republicans passed two bills, SB 1171 and SB 1175, gutting the citizen-led ballot initiatives that were passed into law back in September. In response, state Rep. Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) issued the following statement

“November brought record high voter turnout because people want our laws to reflect how people should be treated—with respect, dignity, and fairness. Hundreds of thousands of Michiganders supported these ballot initiatives over the past year—I cannot support efforts to weaken them during lame duck. I ran for office to elevate the voices of hardworking families in my community, not suppress them.”
