LANSING — Yesterday, Gov. Snyder held a ceremonial bill signing for House Bill 5278 — now Public Act 281 of 2018 — which officially codifies into existence the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board. In response, state Rep. Sheldon Neeley (D-Flint), the sponsor of HB 5278, issued the following statement:

“I am grateful my colleagues and the governor recognized the importance of this board and approved my legislation so quickly. Our culture is experiencing a seismic shift in response to the #MeToo movement, and resources like those provided by the Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board are more critical than ever. Ensuring that this board is solidified in our state law will help guarantee that survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault receive the support they need to begin the healing process, and the freedom to live their lives.”
