DETROIT — A groundbreaking event was held today for the Gordie Howe International Bridge, which will serve as a new trade crossing between the cities of Detroit and Windsor. In response, state Rep. Stephanie Chang (D-Detroit) issued the following statement:

“Breaking ground on the Gordie Howe International Bridge marks a transformational moment for Detroit and Michigan. The bridge project will play a pivotal role in restoring Detroit to its role as the economic engine that powers our state. This bridge will create thousands of Michigan jobs in both the short and long term.

“Since taking office in 2015, it has been my honor to be a part of the Community Advisory Group that has worked in partnership with the WDBA, the state of Michigan, and the city of Detroit to advocate for a bridge with benefits to the Delray and Southwest Detroit community I serve. This community has been organizing and speaking up for over fifteen years and made significant sacrifices. I am excited to be a part of today's announcement and look forward to our continued relationship with all stakeholders to ensure that Delray and Southwest Detroit residents' public health, air quality, and economic security is protected and enhanced for years to come.”
