LANSING — The House of Representatives voted on the Fiscal Year 2018-19 school and general budgets today. State Rep. Sylvia Santana (D-Detroit) voted against both the General Omnibus Budget and School Omnibus Budget. In response, Rep. Santana issued the following statement:

“This budget is a mixed bag of good ideas with bad policy. As pleased as I was to see the return of state workers to the Michigan Department of Corrections food service, I could not overlook the largely negative effects this budget is going to have on the state of Michigan. We still lack critical funding for our schools, our roads and the UIA fraud relief fund. These are issues that should have been addressed, and to leave them ingored or unfunded is lazy at best, callous at worst. This budget was not crafted with the interests of everyday Michiganders in mind, and that was why ultimately I could not support it.”
